MAT RATS CLASS A SECTION 7 2007-2008 PRESEASON REPORT

MAT RATS CLASS A SECTION SEVEN
2007-2008 PRESEASON REPORT

Favorites: Pierz Pioneers and Aitkin Gobblers

The Pioneers will be looking for some big things this season after having an injured filled campaign in 2006-2007. They will have nine section place winners returning; including three state qualifiers. They will have fours others with a great deal of experience back from last year’s team. Clint Poster, Tanner Tetrick, Alex Huls, Corey Eagan and Scott Janson will be the leaders for the Pioneers. They should make a big improvement on their dual meet marks of 13-14 from last season. Look for Pierz to once again challenge for Central Minnesota Conference and Section 7A Honors. They could possibly challenge for Class A State honors as well.

The Gobblers will be led by the return six section place winners, including five state qualifiers. They will also have one other wrestler returning with a great deal of varsity experience from last year’s team. Matt Christensen, Justin Chouanard, Andrew Halberg, Keith Wasserszieher and Nathan Cummings will be the key leaders for the Gobblers this season. They graduated five wrestlers last spring including five section place winners and two state place winners. They will have a tough time improving on last years dual meet marks of 23-7. But look for this team to fill in with some very good junior varsity wrestlers. They should again be a major factor in the Great River Conference and the Section7A dual meet campaign.

Dark Horses: Crosby-Ironton Rangers and Trinity at Rivers Edge

The Rangers will be led by eight returning section place winners including one state place winner. The will also have three other wrestlers that will be returning with a great deal of varsity of experience from last season. Brad Hofstrand, Wade Adams, Andrew Kayfes, Brandon Biever and Ben Rothstein will be the key leaders for the Rangers. After having their best season in recent years the Rangers should be very excited about the upcoming season. With the graduation of one senior last spring from this team, they should challenge those dual meet marks of 12-7 from last. Look for the Rangers to challenge for honors in the Mid-State Conference. They should challenge for a top four spot in the Section 7A dual meet campaign.

Trinity at Rivers Edge will be led by the return of two state qualifiers and four other section place winners. They will also have four other wrestlers returning with a great deal of experience from last season. Micah Olson and Joe Bulger will be their keys leaders for this season. Despite the graduation of state champion Joe Murphy last spring they should challenge their dual meet marks of 9-8 from last season. They should challenge for honors in the Tri Metro Conference. Look for them to make a strong bid for a top four spot in this Section 7A dual meet campaign.

Section 7A returns five medal winners from last season that includes: Clint Poster of Pierz, Matt Christensen of Aitkin, Brad Hofstrand of Crosby-Ironton, Micah Olson of Trinity at River Edge and Chris Steffenson of Mille Lacs.
There a total of fifteen returning state qualifiers back from last years state tourney action. Those not mentioned above are: Ethan Skog of Meadow Creek Christian School/Rivers Christian Academy, Mitch Gerold of Braham, Colton Johnston of Ogilvie and Chris Steffenson of Mille Lacs.

Look for the following wrestlers: Corey Eagan, Sean Huls, Ty Winkleman and John Omann of Pierz, Sam Srock and David Booth of Crosby-Ironton, Luke Olson of Trinity at Rivers Edge, David Pinewski of Meadow Creek Christian School/Rivers Christian Academy, Renante Rott of St. Croix Lutheran, Adam Kelling, Eric Jokinen and Allen Kelling of Braham, Matt Hickerson and Chris Arnold of Ogilvie, Ben Presler and Neil Zimmerman of Royalton, Zach Olson, Ryan Jones and Kevin Pedersen of Mille Lacs and Jason Benson and Jake Welna of Rush City to challenge for medals at the end of the season.

MAT RATS CLASS A SECTION 6 2007-2008 PRESEASON REPORT

MAT RATS CLASS A SECTION SIX
2007-2008 PRESEASON REPORT

Favorites: Bertha Hewitt/Verndale Raiders and Barnesville Trojans

The Raiders will be led by the return of six section place winners including five state qualifiers. Their leaders will be Ethan Kern, Zak Lambert, Sam Moenkedick, Matt Monekedick, Wade Monekedick and Jake Braaten. They will also return six others with a great deal of varsity wrestling experience from last year’s team. The Raiders to make a big improvement on their dual meet marks of 12-10 from last season. Look for the Raiders to be a major factor in the Park Region Conference and the Section 6A dual meet campaign.

The Barnesville Trojans will be led by the return of two state qualifiers including one state place winner. They will have five additional section place winners back and one other back with a great deal of varsity experience from last season. The Trojans did graduate six seniors last spring, including five state qualifiers, three of which were state place winners. They will have a tough time challenging those dual meet marks of 23-2 from last season. But the Trojans will be looking for Heart of Lakes Conference honors and they should make a strong challenge in this balance Section 6A dual meet campaign.

Dark Horses: New York Mills Eagles and Wheaton-Herman/Norcross Bullets
The Eagles will be led by the return of seven section place winners and three others with a great deal of varsity experience from last season. Andrew Frost, Brendon Frost, Jordan Novak and Jordan Vaughn should be their key leaders. The Eagles should challenge those dual meet marks of 13-5 from last season. Despite the graduation of three very good seniors looks for the Eagles once again to be a force to be reckoned with again this season. They should challenge for both Park Region Conference and Section 6A honors.

The Bullets will be led by six returning section place winners including one state qualifier. Austin Nilson, Ryan Schwagel and Will McCarthy will be the key leaders for the Bullets this season. They graduated eight very good seniors last spring including two state qualifiers. They will be hard pressed to challenge those dual meet numbers of 21-6 from last season. But look for the Bullets to improve during the course of the season and to challenge for a top four spot in Section 6A.

Look for the Pelican Rapids Vikings, the Staples-Motley Cardinals and the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines to possibly challenge for a top four spot in this very balance section 6A dual meet campaign.

Section 6A returns three medal winners from last season that includes: Matt Benson of Chokio-Alberta/Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley, Ethan Kern of Bertha Hewitt/Verndale and Trevor Krueger of Barnesville.

There a total of fifteen returning state qualifiers back from last years state tourney action. Those not mentioned above are: McKale Evenson of Pelican Rapids, Tony Wegsheid of Wadena-Deer Creek, Mithcell Andrews of Chokio-Alberta/Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley, Dayton Sternhagen of West Central Area and Alex Johnson of Breckenridge.

Look for the following wrestlers: Cody Cox, Justin Lee and Jacob Boshor of Barnesville, Alin Bakken, Tyler Wilson and Justin Meyer of Pelican Rapids, Kodeiy Lind, Jordan Bendson, Trent Carlson, Andrew Becker, Devin Becker and Taylor Benson of Staples-Motley, Trey VanOrsdal, Jordan Rentz and Matt Hagen of Wadena-Deer Creek, Tyler Olson of Ottertail Central, Bryce Benson of Chokio-Alberta/Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley, Jake Long of West Central Area, Tyler Walsh, Jason Arvidson and Chris Birkholz of Parkers Prairie and Luke Poppel of Breckenridge to challenge for medals at the end of the season.

MAT RATS CLASS A SECTION 5 2007-2008 PRESEASON REPORT

MAT RATS CLASS A SECTION FIVE
2007-2008 PRESEASON REPORT

Favorites: Atwater-Cosmos Grove City Falcons and Minnewaska Lakers
The Falcons will be led by six section place winners including five state qualifiers from last years State Championship team. Nic Leither, Ben Meyer, Micah Larson, Travis Frederickson and Scott Litzau. They should get a big boost also with the return of 2006 State Champion Jeremy Anderson, as it appears he will be back for this season. Despite the graduation of six excellent seniors, including six state qualifiers the Falcons will be a major factor in the West Central South Conference, Section 5A and potentially in the State. They will be hard pressed to improve on last seasons state championship and their 24-1 dual meet mark but look for them to have a very strong team as they will be working for a repeat in 2007-2008.

The Lakers will be led by six returning section place winners and three others with a great deal of experience back from last season’s team. Collin Jergenson, Dan Braaten, David Bond, Brandon Manderschied and Gage Sachs will be the Lakers leaders. Despite the graduation of six seniors, look for the Lakers to improve on their 12-9 dual meet mark of last season. They could challenge for honors in this tough West Central South Conference. The Lakers should challenge for a top four spot in which should be a very balance Section 5A.

Dark Horses: Osakis Silverstreaks, Paynesville Bulldogs and Howard Lake/Waverly Winsted Lakers
The Osakis Silverstreaks will be led by seven returning section place winners including three returning state qualifiers. They will also have six others returning with a great deal of experience from last years varsity season. Wendell Larson, Clinton Wiener, Isaiah Duchene and Jordan Trisco will be the key leaders for the Silverstreaks. They should make a big improvement on their dual meet marks of 12-10 from last season if they stay healthy. Look for the Silverstreaks to challenge for Park Region Conference and Section 5A Honors.
The Bulldogs will be lead by seven returning section place winners including two returning state qualifiers and eight others with a great deal of varsity experience from last years team. Their leaders will Jordan Christian and Cory Spanier. This young team should make great strides during the season. They should improve on last year’s dual meet marks of 9-12. Look for the Bulldogs to be a force to be reckoned with, if they do continue to improve. They could challenge for a top four spot in the Section 5A dual meet campaign.

The Lakers will be lead by the return of seven section place winners and two others with a great deal of experience back from last years very successful season. John Long, Jason Koch, Emmett Lynch and Cameron Lehner will be the key leaders for the Lakers. Despite the graduation of three very good seniors look for the Lakers to challenge their meet marks of 16-8 from last season and to be looking for end of the season honors in both the Central Minnesota Conference and in 5A dual meet campaign.

Section 5A returns three medal winners from last season that includes: Nic Leither and Ben Meyer of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City and Jordan Christian of Paynesville.

There a total of eighteen returning state qualifiers back from last years state tourney action. MAT RATS CLASS A SECTION FOUR
2007-2008 PRESEASON REPORT

Favorites: Saint James Saints and Madelia-Truman Jayhawks
The St. James Saints will be led by the return of two qualifiers and six section place winners. They will also have three others returning from last years very good team with a great deal of varsity experience. Ethan Hoppe, Ethan Hildebrandt, Hilario Alvarado, Brady Stauffer and Ethan Pierson will be the key leaders for the Saints this season. Despite the fact that they graduated six seniors last spring including four section place winners. Look for them to challenge those dual meet numbers of 17-7 from last season. The Saints should make strong challenges for honors in the South Central Conference and in Section 4A.

The Madelia-Truman Jayhawks will be led by the return three state qualifiers including two state place winners and five section place winners. They will also have two others with a great deal of experience back from last year’s team. Nate Hayes, Tucker Freeman, Bryce Andrews and Kevin Leiferman will be the key leader for the Jayhawks. The Jayhawks did graduate three very good seniors last season including two state place winners. They should however challenge those dual meet numbers of 13-8 from last season. Look for the Jayhawks to make very strong challenges for honors in the Valley Conference and in this very balance section 4A Dual meet campaign.

Dark Horses: River Valley Wildcats and the Lesueur-Henderson Giants
The River Valley Wildcats will be led by two returning state place winners and six section place winners. The Wildcats should challenge for honors in the Valley Conference and look for them to be a top four team in this very balanced Section 4A Dual meet campaign.

The Lesueur-Henderson Giants will be led by three returning state qualifiers including two state place winners. They will have two section place winners and others also returning with a great deal of varsity experience from last season. Jason Sunderman, Matt Pfarr and Zach Pesch will be the Giants key leaders this season. They graduated one very good senior last spring so the Giants should make an improvement on those dual meets numbers of 11-15 from last season. The Giants should challenge for Minnesota River Conference honors and look for them to be a top four team in this very balanced Section 4A Dual meet campaign.

Look for the Lake Crystal-Welcome Memorial Knights and the Norwood Young America Radiers to possibly challenge for one of those top four spots in this very good Section 4A dual meet campaign.

MAT RATS CLASS A SECTION 3 2007-2008 PRESEASON REPORT

MAT RATS CLASS A SECTION THREE
2007-2008 PRESEASON REPORT

Favorites: Canby Lancers and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Saints
The Canby Lancers will be led by six returning state qualifiers including one state place winner. They will have two section place winners and five others with a great deal of experience returning from last year’s team. Alex Kontz, Travis Hanson, Jon Verhelst, Dan Des Lauriers, Jake Long and Brad Wollum will be the key leaders for the Lancers this season. Despite the graduation of four very good seniors including three state place winners, they will challenge those great dual meet marks of 28-2 from last season. Look for the Lancers to make a strong challenge to repeat for those honors in the Camden Conference, Section 3A and possibly a strong bit for State Class A honors.

The Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Saints will be led by six returning state qualifiers. They will also have three section place winners and six others with a great deal of experience returning from last year’s very successful team. Kevin Steinhaus, Codey Kinney, Mitchell Hagen, Brad Kneisl, Jacob Engler and Joel Bauman will be their key leaders this season. The Fighting Saints only graduated two seniors last spring so look for them to be a much stronger team than even last years as indicated by their 19-4 dual meet marks. Look for them to make a strong challenge for Camden Conference and Section 3A honors. They should be one of the elite teams in the State in Class A this season.

Dark Horses: Yellow Medicine East Sting and Minneota Vikings
The Yellow Medicine East Sting will be led by the return of three state place winners including one state place winner. They will have six section place winners and three others with a great deal of experience from last years for strong team. Casey Field, Austen Cole, Wyatt Sand will be the key leaders for the Sting this season. They did graduate three excellent wrestlers last spring, but they will be even a stronger team this season. Look for them to improve on those excellent 18-4 dual meet marks from last season. The Sting should challenge for West Central South Conference and Section 3A honors.
The Minneota Vikings will be led by the return of three state qualifiers, three section place winners and two others that are back with a great deal of experience from last season. Christian Skillings, Craig Peterson, Beau Buysse and Sam Derynck should be the key leaders for the Vikings this season. The Vikings did graduated five seniors including three section place winners so the Vikings may be hard pressed to challenge those great dual meet marks from last season of 21-4. Look for this team to challenge for honors in the Camden Conference and for a top four spot in this very good Section 3A dual meet campaign.

Look for the Pipestone Area Arrows, Dawson-Boyd and the Benson Braves to possibly challenge for one of those top four spots in this very good Section 3A dual meet campaign.

Section 3A returns seven medal winners from last season that includes: Kevin Steinhaus, Codey Kinney and Mitchell Hagen of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Alex Kontz of Canby, Casey Field of Yellow Medicine East, Cameron Jurgenson and Ryan Swenson of Dawson-Boyd.

There a total of twenty-five returning state qualifiers back from last years state tourney action. Those not mentioned above are: Josh Bush of Pipestone Area, Eric Croatt Ortonville, Travis Moser and Eric Goette of Morris Area/Hancock.
Look for the following wrestlers: Spencer Almen, Kurt Timmons and Klinton VanHeuveln of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Martin Hagen, Evan Stock and Phil Johnson of Yellow Medicine East, Jared Longtin and Adam Longtin of Minneota, Taylor Aaland, Sean ennen, Jadon Evans and Andrew Larson of Pipestone Area, Dakota Freiborg and Jake Freiborg of Renville County West, Ryan Thompson, Bradley Plumhoff, Chris Carruth and Brandon Berens of Benson, Mat Drehmer and Sam Hass of LQPV, Travis Thooft, Tim Ostby and Josh Nelson of Morris Area/Hancock, Jake Bothun and Justin Sather of Dawson-Boyd and Jason Roggenbuck of Ortonville to challenge for medals at the end of the season.

2007-2008 PRESEASON REPORT

Favorites: Jackson County Central Huskies and the United South Central Rebels
The Jackson County Huskies will be a big favorite after they dropped to Class A from Class AA. They will be led by six returning state qualifiers including five state place winners. The Huskies will also return four section place winners and seven others with a great deal of varsity experience. Travis Rutt, Cole VanOhlen, Torey Stewart, Caleb Lines, Branson Stueber and Cooper Moore will be the key leaders for the Huskies. They should challenge those great dual meet numbers of 33-3 from last season. Look for the Huskies to challenge for South West Conference, Section 2A and State Class A honors.

The United South Central Rebels will be led by the return of three state qualifiers including two state place winners. They will also return seven section place winners and three others with a great deal of varsity experience from last season. Jake Bonsack, Seth Amberg and Mike Linder will be the key leaders for the Rebels this season. The Maple River Eagles will be led by the return of four state qualifiers and three other section place winners. They will also return five others with a great deal of experience from last year’s team. Aaron Norgren, Alex Bach, Paul Norgren and Kyle Sieberg will be the key leaders for the Eagles this season.
